Crockett Dog Takes Best in Show

Double the Fun event deemed a success

CROCKETT, TEXAS (Sept. 22, 2014) - A 3-year-old Treeing Walker Hound named Broken Roads Bad Medicine, owned by Jessica McRae, of Crockett walked away with Best in Show honor at the Saturday, Sept. 20 AKC style conformation Show sponsored by Davy Crockett Kennel Club Incorporated.

Entries from across the Davy Crockett National Forest area attended the fun-filled event that also included the Fall fun Dog Show organized by Crockett Veterinary Hospital and Petcare For Seniors Incorporated that featured fun-filled categories designed to appeal to the average pet owner.

Prestigious AKC Licensed Judges Laurie Telfair, Carol Moser and Sandra London, all from the North Texas area, judged the various groups including Herding, Working, Toy, Terrier, Sporting, Non-Sporting and Hounds in the AKC style Conformation show which led to the naming of the top dog of the day - the Best in Show winner.

In addition to the winner, also competing in the Best in Show competition as winners of their respective groups were an American Staffordshire Terrier named Diesel owned by Ben Redy; a Boxer named Maggie owned by Holly Lovell; a Protugese Podengo Pequeno named Scruffy owned by Holly Lovell, a Pembroke Welch Corgi named Tamera's Written in Granite, owned by Tamera Schneider; and a Golden Retriever named Gabe, owned by Julia Marrietta.

Members of Davy Crockett Kennel Club Incorporated, a planning committee from Crockett Veterinary Hospital and officials with Petcare For Seniors Incorporated joined together to plan the event for not only the serious American Kennel Club dog show fancier, but the average pet owner as well.

Winners in the Crockett Veterinary Hospital Fall Fun Dog Show included Best Dressed, Tootsie, owned by Tamera Schneider; Smallest Dog, Peaches, owned by Ellen Brooks; Shortest Tail, Spot, owned by Tamera Schneider; Longest Tail, Gabe, owned by Julia Marrietta; Biggest Dog, Gabe, owned by Julia Marrietta; and Most Talented, Maggie, owned by Holly Lovell. Judges for the Fun-Dog Show were County Judge Erin Ford, Lael Lewis and Michelle Craven.

AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Testing was held in conjunction with the event with two dogs participating. Laura Gibson served as judge and administered the testing.
